"Body Manifest" celebrates the beauty and power of collaborative artistry through the hands of the women at Saco da Baixa. It developed as an inquiry into the essence of human connection and the stark void of its absence or its antithesis, neglect, alongside the investigation of duality present within oneself and in the relationships with others. It interrogates the fabric of interpersonal relationships, underscored by the materiality of felt—a medium rich in texture and depth- embodying the fleshiness it seeks to represent. This choice of material is deliberate, denoting the warmth of human touch and the corporeal reality of presence. Encased within a transparent cube, it navigates the boundaries of visibility and confinement, examining how we constantly negotiate revealing and concealing and are simultaneously exposed and isolated. The cube as both a barrier and a window, a structure that contains and houses yet offers a glimpse into complexity and fluidity, the tangible and the elusive. If you find yourself thinking this is a sex organ, that´s partly on you and your view of the world. As a lot of the Biological world IS about survival via reproduction. Accompanied by a sound installation that echoes the omnipresent sound of the body, it becomes a visual, tactile and audible discourse on the human condition, urging a contemplative engagement with the themes of duality, touch, and the profound need for connection amidst the isolating exercise of being.
