Wool, Margilan silk, cotton and hemp, hand felted and sculpted into an animal mask. 2019

An animal mask created first as a learning exercise to push and press on wool’s ability to perform close to real features, hold large hollow shapes, and be wearable and expressive. The result becoming part of artistic identity through the belief that creation mechanisms are never to be totally tamed, that art needs consciousness and a checkpoint. Still, it must also be let to roam free to fully be embodied into something tangible that resonates with the human heart. This mask personifies both the gentleness and stamina of hand-worked fibres in all their glory.
